If you have received a letter from a debt collector such as Recovia, it means we have been instructed by a business, organisation, or public sector body to recover an amount you owe. This page provides essential debt recovery guidance on what happens next and the options available to you. Whatever your circumstances, the worst action is to do nothing — the letter will indicate a deadline, and ignoring it can lead to further demands escalating.
1. Check the details
Your communication includes a Recovia reference, the name of the business we represent, and a full breakdown of the claimed amount, including any statutory interest and compensation. Be sure to quote this reference in every payment and message to us.
2. If you can pay
The quickest way to resolve the issue is by making a full payment — either through a bank transfer to the account details provided in your letter and on our Make a Payment page, online by card, or over the phone at 01527 369593. Always make sure to include your reference.
If Recovia has invited you to our Debtor Portal, you can also view your matter, make a payment, request a repayment plan and upload documents securely there.
3. If you can’t pay in full right now
Reach out to us. In many situations, we can help set up a formal repayment plan through Recovia debt services to help you manage the debt over time and prevent further escalation. A realistic repayment plan is looked upon very differently than silence.
4. If you dispute the debt
Notify us in writing as soon as you can, stating your reasons and attaching any supporting evidence, such as contracts or delivery records. Genuine disputes will be addressed with our client, and collection activities for the disputed amount will be on hold while we review the claim. Keep in mind that a dispute must be properly substantiated; simply opposing the debt does not stop the process from continuing.
5. Free, independent advice
You are entitled to seek independent advice at any time:
• Citizens Advice — citizensadvice.org.uk — offers free advice on debt, legal issues, and your rights
• Business Debtline — businessdebtline.org — provides free debt advice for sole traders and small businesses
• StepChange Debt Charity — stepchange.org — gives free advice on managing personal financial difficulties
How we conduct ourselves
At Recovia, we do not engage in harassment or aggressive tactics. Our approach will always be professional, and our letters will clearly outline the basis of the claim. If you inform us of circumstances that make you vulnerable, we will consider these factors in how your case is managed. If you believe we haven’t met these standards, please refer to our complaints procedure on the Legal & Compliance page, and we will ensure every complaint receives a thorough response.
Do you have questions regarding your letter or email? You can call us at 01527 369593 or email contact@recoviaholdings.co.uk, and remember to quote your reference.
